Cusco - Our hotel Andenes al Cielo

Our 'home base' for the Peru leg of our trip is the Andenes al Cielo hotel (www.andenesalcielo.com) which was absolutely wonderful both in looks and service. The hotel itself is a large house or apartment type building surrounding a nice courtyard with flowers and fish (some dead, as A pointed out to us). The wood work and stone work were beautiful, and inspiring (though likely not affordable) for our house to build back home.

One of the coolest parts of our room was a full length window/door that opened to a tiny balcony on the second floor above the street. You can see it in the picture below, just above the main entrance. The kids and I love to stand out there and just watch the passerbys and the many stray dogs making their way.

One particularly great balcony view was Friday (6/6) watching a fireworks show that would put any I have seen in the US to shame right over the city (I think there may be a 'cost/regulation or lack there of' reason to the volume and variety). C and I remarked several times thinking it was over, and it just kept going :) Fun to watch from a 'safe' distance! We stayed here the first two nights of the week, and two more nights after we returned from the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu and though it was our most expensive hotel of our Peru leg, it was well worth it to be in a safe but beautiful part of the city, and to be helped by a staff that bent over backwards for us.
